The Shimano XTR M981 rear derailleur with ultra small profile and Shimano's Shadow RD technology ensure for precise and effortless shifting. The goal was the improve the stability and durability by minimizing external influence. The ultra small profile is meant for aggressive riding because it reduces the risk of damage in small passages and risky trails. The shorter cage reduces slapping and improves the ground space. The rear derailleur works smooth and quiet under all circumstance and with very precise index functions. Furthermore it reduces the resistance by the jockey wheels with closed bearings.
